The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling pickup in the country for more than 45 years in a row and it performs so well it’s now the most popular vehicle in the world. The F-150 has achieved that stature by beating some worthy competors, especially the Chevy Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500. Let’s take a look at how the Ford F-150 stacks up with its rivals and why you’ll want to get a new F-150 at Bowditch Ford in Newport News, VA.
Comparing towing and payload
The Ford F-150 comes out well ahead of the both competitors in these two categories. The new F-150 continues to give you the best towing and hauling capability in its very competitive class. The latest edition of the F-150 can tow a maximum of 14,000 pounds vs. the Chevy Silverado 1500at 13,300 pounds and the Ram 1500 with only 12,750 pounds of maximum towing.
The F-150 also pulls ahead when it comes to hauling. The F-150 can pack up to 3,325 pounds of payload compared with just 2,300 pounds of payload for the Ram 1500 and 2,310 pounds with the Chevy Silverado 1500. In other words, the F-150 gives you more than 1,000 pounds of extra payload for a price that’s in the same ballpark. No wonder it's so popular with truck buyers like you in Hampton and Yorktown.
Comparing powertrain choices
The new Ford F-150 starts by giving Williamsburg buyers more engine options than the Chevy Silverado 1500. Ford gives you a choice of four V6 engines, including a twin-turbo V6 as well as a hybrid V6 and a V8, for a total of five choices. The Chevy Silverado 1500 is limited to four powertrains including a turbocharged inline-four, two V8s and a turbo-diesel but no hybrid option.
The Ram 1500 also has five powertrain choices, like the F-150. Ram options include a 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 with a 12,750-pound towing capacity, a HEMI® V8 that can tow 11,610 pounds, a 3.6-liter V6, a 3.0-liter diesel V6 and a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® V8. So the Ford F-150 comes out ahead of the Chevy Silverado and matches the Ram 1500 in total numbers. But the F-150 offers a money-saving hybrid option while the Ram 1500 doesn’t.
Comparing practical features
The Ford F-150 has a number of helpful features we think you'll find more appealing than the other two pickups. For example, the F-150 offers Suffolk buyers a 7.2-kilowatt Pro Power Onboard system that operates as a mobile generator and that’s a class-exclusive feature. The other two trucks don’t have the F-150’s Interior Work Surface and Tailgate Work Surface. The new F-150 also has BoxLink™ that allow you to secure your cargo and it comes with LED tailgate lighting, 400-watt outlets, cargo cleats and built-in clamp pockets.
The Chevy Silverado 1500 does offer a handy multi-flex tailgate but it doesn't have the kind of interior and exterior work surfaces the Ford F-150 offers. The Ram 1500 is equipped with a RamBox® Cargo Management system but it’s not better than the Ford F-150’s BoxLink™ feature. The Ram 1500 also has a multi-function tailgate but it only gives you a 150-volt auxiliary outlet. So while all three pickups have helpful features, the Ford F-150 gives you a higher level of utility and value.
Comparing technology
Ford’s Dynamic Hitch Assist and its standard rearview camera helps Virginia Beach drivers connect the new F-150 to their trailers. Towing is simpler with Ford's CoPilot360™ safety system that includes hill-start assist. The Chevy Silverado 1500 also comes with an advanced trailering system but hill-start assist isn’t part of the package. The Ram 1500 does give you hill-start assist but it doesn't have a hands-free towing feature like the F-150.
